Writer from Karelia became the New Pushkin premium winner

PETROZAVODSK, January 31. /Correspondent of SPB-TASS Sergey Kulikayev/. Writer from Karelia Dmitry Novikov became the winner of the New Pushkin premium of 2007 in the nomination For Innovative Development of National Cultural Traditions. The premium chairman, writer and literary critic Andrey Bitov brought this news to the winner.

Dmitry Novikov, known to Russian readers for his books A Fly in Amber, Desire, Tango of Karelian Isthmus, Is a native of Petrozavodsk, the capital of Karelia, graduated from a medical institute, served in the army. He has published his first story on his own site on the Internet, and then in the Karelian periodicals. He is a winner of the IVth Forum of young writers of Russia of 2004, winner of Strugatsky brothers literary competition.

The New Pushkin premium is founded by Alexander Zhukov's Fund, A.Pushkin State museum and Mikhailovskoye State Open-Air Museum in 2005. The premium provides nominations For Cumulative Creative Contribution to National Culture and since 2006 - For Innovative Development of National Cultural Traditions. The New Pushkin premium, unlike the State Pushkin premium existed up to 2004, is private, no jury and competition are stipulated.

Among winners of the New Pushkin premium there are the Russian and West-European literature researcher Sergey Bocharov, poet Yury Kublanovsky (Moscow), prose writer Alexey Lukianov (Solikamsk, Perm region).
