Nord Hydro - Bely Porog Company and Laboratory. New Technologies LLC signed an agreement of intent in Karelia on joint implementation and use of innovative technologies in the process of construction of small hydroelectric power plants SHPP Beloporozhskaya HPP-1 and SHPP Beloporozhskaya HPP-2.

The project for construction of small HPPs (hydroelectric power plants) which is implemented in the Republic by the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Nord Hydro Company and consortium of state investors, became the first Russian project approved by the Board of Directors of the New Development Bank established by BRICS. The total amount of allotted investments is USD 100 mln

Two small hydroelectric power plants with the total power amounting to nearly 50 MW will be constructed in Kemsky district. When such a large-scaled investment project is implemented, it is planned to use a number of innovations worked out by Laboratory. New Technologies Company.

"Russia has always been one of the best in the world in building hydrotechnical constructions. The country has technologies still not very well-known to wide circles of builders. We set the task to implement a number of interesting innovations when building Beloporozhskaya HPPs," Alexey Vinogradov, Managing Director of Nord Hydro JSC, Director General of Nord Hydro - Bely Porog LLC, told at the meeting with the Head of Karelia.

According to him, the construction site will become an original innovative venue where modern Russian technologies and designs will be tested. In future they will be used not only in Russia but in BRICS states that are interested in innovations as well.

Ivan Muravyev, Executive Director of Laboratory. New Technologies LLC, said that it is supposed to implement 4 technologies when bringing the project into life. They are nanotechnologies, safety and durability, artificial intelligence technologies and new construction technologies.

Thus, one of the designs solves the problem of residue recycling in case of crushed granite. When it is made a lot of sand and waste are accumulated, which are not used. Scientists learnt to make an effective material from them allowing decreasing the amount of cement when cementing.

Alexey Vinogradov informed the Head of Karelia that the company plans to start preparatory work at the construction site in August or September. At the moment the examination process by the State Expert Evaluation Department of Russia is coming to the end. After that the building permit will be obtained. It is important that mostly Russian equipment will be used in the course of the project, and construction will be effected by Russian subcontractors. Building of regeneration facilities will allow attracting up to 450 local professionals.

"Construction of Beloporozhskaya HPPs will be completed in 2019. The projects are included in the Federal Target Program for Karelia's Development, and the work will be completed exactly before the Republic's one hundredth anniversary," Alexey Vinogradov said.

The implementation of this project is controlled by the State Commission for preparation for the celebration of Karelia's 100th anniversary and its Chairman, Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Nikolay Patrushev.

The Government of Karelia was actively promoting this project which will make a considerable contribution to development of the Republic's northern areas.

"This project is important and unique. This is a new power engineering facility and a new stage of the regional energy system's development in the Republic of Karelia at the expense of recycled, ecologically cleaned sources. This is a new quality of life," Alexander Khudilaynen emphasized.

We remind you that in 2011 Nord Hydro Company built the first in Russia small hydroelectric power plant in the village of Lyaskelya. Two more have been opened in Sortavala district - Kalliokosky and Ryumyakosky.
