On January 20-21, Lahdenpohja region hosted the first stage of the Russian Rally Championship of the 2017 season, as part of which
a stage of the Championship of the North-West Federal District and the 1st stage of the Cup of the Republic of Karelia also took place.
According to the organizers, recently it has been the only tournament in Russia that managed to receive so many strong teams, including the champions
of the last years who fought for leadership to the last kilometer. A total of 74 crews went off and 53 of them finished. Drivers from Petrozavodsk,
St. Petersburg, Moscow, Izhevsk, Perm, Maykop, Khabarovsk, Yaroslavl, Pskov, Rostov-on-Don, and also from Finland took part in the competition.
The total length of the snow-ice trail was 408 km, 140 of which is the distance of 12 special stages.
In the end, the top crew in class N4 was Stanislav Travnikov/Alexei Lukyaniuk (Priozersk/St. Petersburg) in their MITSUBISHI Lancer Evo-10. Their crew
also headed the final standings of the first stage of the Championship of the country with a half a minute breakaway from the runner-up. Alexander Posadsky
and Ilya Komissarov, driver and co-driver from Petrozavodsk, took the 8th place in class N4 in a car of the same model.
In class R3, the top crew was Dmitry Voronov/Vasily Krichevsky (St. Petersburg) in their VAZ 2192. In class R2, gold was captured by Dmitry Myachin/Alexander
Gorlanov (Kaliningrad/Pskov) in PEUGEOT 208.
