Karelian Office of the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) registered a new TV channel called SAMPO TV 360°
during the last week of December 2017.
The launch of this channel is expected to contribute to the development of regional information, communication and telecommunication systems in accordance with the document
entitled "Concept of TV broadcasting development in the Russian Federation".
The new channel will focus on promoting digital broadcasting, raising awareness of the regional government bodies and their actions, providing equal coverage to all the
political parties represented in the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia, and ensuring effective feedback through establishing links between citizens and
SAMPO TV 360° is positioned as a community-oriented information channel, which will provide cutting-edge analytical content and deliver reliable information promptly,
impartially and effectively.
Originally, the new channel will be available through the website of the Republic of Karelia news agency (rk.karelia.ru) and other popular regional Internet platforms,
as well as major video hosting services (including Youtube) and social media, such as VK (VKontakte) or Facebook.
Later, SAMPO TV 360° will be broadcast in Petrozavodsk through local Petronet cable network. It will also apply for being included as mandatory public TV channel into a
DTT multiplex. The winner of the mux license tender will be allocated the 21st button of the remote control, which means that during the process of tuning cable or internet
television channel signals this regional channel will be detected immediately after 20 federal channels offered by the multiplex.
Russia began introducing digital TV technologies in 2009. New digital format ensures higher broadcasting quality for the channels included into the packages (or multiplexes)
mandatory for nationwide distribution. The proposal to transmit regional TV channels through such multiplexes was approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The primary task of the new channel team, which includes some of the most prominent Karelian journalists, is to produce daily news reports, weekly event coverage, and studio
discussions of major economic and social challenges for the Republic of Karelia. The first news broadcast is scheduled for January 10, 2018.
SAMPO TV 360° is going to work in partnership with 360° TV channel popular in Moscow and the Moscow region. In 2018, the new channel will start delivering news and other
content throughout Karelia via cable networks, websites, and other media.
