Karelia and Uzbekistan agreed to develop their cooperation

On August 11, the Minister of Economic Development of the Republic of Karelia, Oleg Ermolaev, met with the Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in St. Petersburg, Alisher Babaev.

During the conversation, Oleg Ermolaev noted that at the end of 2022, the volume of foreign trade between Karelia and Uzbekistan increased by 4 times compared to the same period in 2021. The volume of the export deliveries in 2022 increased by 3 times.

The head of the regional Ministry of Economic Development pointed out the positive results of interaction with the colleagues from the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of tourism.

– Speaking about the potential of developing cooperation between Karelia and Uzbekistan, one cannot fail to mention the tourism sector. Today, our region offers a wide range of excursion programs and tours for active, ecological, excursion recreation. About 60 regional travel companies organize programs in the "high" seasons and in the off-season while covering all regions of the republic. We are pleased to invite the people of Uzbekistan to visit Karelia and see with their own eyes the beauty of our northern republic and feel its identity, - said Oleg Ermolaev during the meeting.

In his turn, Mr. Alisher Babaev proposed to develop bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, healthcare and opening of the representative offices of the Karelian companies in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The Consul General invited the Karelian enterprises to take part in the international events on the territory of Uzbekistan.

At the end of the meeting, it was noted that Karelia is open to continuing all-round cooperation with Uzbekistan, implementation of joint projects aimed at strengthening cooperation between the republics.
