Visitor Center “Belomorskie Petroglyphy” will open this spring

The Head of the Republic of Karelia, Artur Parfenchikov, announced it today at a meeting on the Belomorsky District social and economic development.

The head of Karelia noted that the White Sea petroglyphs, as the UNESCO heritage, are a point of attraction for tourists. Last year, the site was visited by almost 17 thousand people, which is more than 70% higher than the 2023 figures.

- The main flow of tourists to the region is formed due to the interest in the archaeological complex “Belomorskie Petroglyphy” and the historical and cultural complex of the Solovetsky Islands. Besides, the Museum of the Karelian Front and the Pomor Culture Center, which is a structural subdivision of the Belomorsk Museum of Local History, are of unconditional interest, - the head of the region emphasized.

The building of the Visitor Center with the petroglyphs exposition includes a hotel with 40 rooms. On the 2nd floor, there is a conference hall for 49 seats, with the possibility of organizing coffee breaks for conference participants in the hotel lobby. A cafe with 150 seats serves the passing tourists, the visitors to the exhibition hall of the museum exposition and the hotel residents.

According to the head of the region, next year the reconstruction of two bunkers located near the building of the Karelian Front Museum will be completed. This additional composition in the museum will be of interest to visitors.

As Artur Parfenchikov noted, the visitor center, the museum and the center are important for development of Belomorsk in whole.

- In essence, these are attractive city-forming objects. Tourist attendance will entail the city infrastructure development, which we will, of course, contribute to, - said the head of the region. - No doubt, the increase in the tourist flow should also give impetus to development of related sectors of the economy like trade and public catering. Road improvement and damaged buildings demolition will also be required.

Artur Parfenchikov gave the order to put the Visitor Center into operation in April this year.
