The head of Karelia proposed to use modern scientific developments in preserving the natural resources of the region and the world
Artur Parfenchikov stated that at the first International Scientific and Practical conference «Regional Cooperation within the BRICS: Sustainable Nature Management – Ecology, Education, Tourism».
Petrozavodsk became the first city in Russia to host a regional conference on scientific cooperation among the BRICS countries.
The representatives of the authorities, scientific organizations, expert communities of Russia, India, China and South Africa took part in the conference. The organizers of the conference are the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (KarRC RAS) and the National Committee on BRICS Research (Russia).
According to Artur Parfenchikov, in today's difficult conditions of termination of contacts with the unfriendly states of the collective West, the scientific community of Russia continues to successfully interact with the BRICS partners.
Artur Parfenchikov emphasized that for all countries, the BRICS participants, it is important to consider the balance of economic interests along with the need to preserve natural resources.
– Karelia was chosen for the first scientific conference in this sphere for a good reason. Our region has huge natural resources that form the basis of the economics. Every year, the tourists’ interest in Karelia grows, – said the head of the region. - It is necessary to take into account these moments based on modern scientific developments, including those of our Karelian scientists. At the same time, these are world level issues. We need to combine scientific knowledge, expand humanitarian ties with the BRICS countries.
The head of the region also named development of tourism with the BRICS countries as one of the promising areas.
– Karelia is actively involved in organization of visa-free tourist trips from the friendly countries. Today, 8 tour operators of the republic are working on reception of the tourist groups from China, - said Artur Parfenchikov. – 5 tour operators are ready to accept groups from the Islamic Republic of Iran, which will become a full BRICS participant on January 1, 2024. And this work will be continued.
The head of Karelia noted that the conference is very important for young scientists as well as students of Karelia, who contribute a great deal to the study of natural and ecological processes.
For two days, the KarRC RAS will become a platform for discussing common challenges and opportunities, as well as directions for joint regional projects in the field of nature management, ecological safety and tourism. According to the general director of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the corresponding member of the RAS Olga Bakhmet, scientific cooperation within the BRICS can become the basis for horizontal connections with the regions of other states.
