Sortavala will receive 215 million rubles from the federal budget for improvement
The Head of the Republic Artur Parfenchikov told about it on his social networks.
The corresponding order is published on the website of the Government of Russia. The federal subsidy will help create a unified architectural and cultural space in Sortavala that will become attractive to the local residents and the guests of the republic.
It was possible to receive strong financial support thanks to the victory in the all-Russian competition for grants, which was held last year under the national project "Tourism and Hospitality Industry". 85 applications from 56 regions of Russia were submitted. Only 31 projects were selected. One of the main evaluation criteria beside growing popularity of a particular city among tourists was significance of the project implementation for the municipality, local residents and businesses.
The raised funds will be used to illuminate the facades of the historical buildings in Sortavala and to improve the Vakkosalmi park, the embankment, and the walkways along Lenina and Chkalova streets, etc. It is important that special attention will be paid to creation of the accessible urban environment for disabled people.
All these actions, scheduled to be held in 2023, will highlight historical beauty of the city center and make Sortavala even more comfortable and interesting.
