The Republic of Karelia signed an agreement with the Tourism.RF Corporation
Today, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, four regions of Russia signed agreements with the Tourism.RF Corporation.
In the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, the documents were signed by the General Director of the Tourism.RF Corporation Sergey Sukhanov, the Governor of the Leningrad Region Alexandr Drozdenko, the Head of the Republic of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov, the Acting Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Mikhail Kotyukov and the Governor of the Kaluga Region Vladislav Shapsha.
Dmitry Chernyshenko recalled that the President of Russia Vladimir Putin had instructed to accelerate the development of the tourism infrastructure in the regions. With the support of the Government of the Russian Federation, the economy of the industry continues to actively develop and function, including implementation of the national project "Tourism and Hospitality Industry", aimed at developing domestic tourism.
- Despite all the challenges, the tourism economy is growing. Investment in domestic tourism is the proof of this. The overall task set for the Tourism.RF Corporation and the regions is to create, together with investors, comprehensive year-round world-class resorts, affordable and comfortable accommodation for our fellow citizens and guests of Russia. Already 61 regions have signed their agreements with the Tourism.RF Corporation for the tourist areas development, - said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
Sergey Sukhanov, the General Director of Tourism.RF, emphasized that several complex tourism projects are planned to be implemented under the new agreements.
- In our work on development of the tourism infrastructure in the regions, we always move in two main directions. We develop places that are already popular with tourists and open new ones. Thus, active and ecotourism will be an invariable priority in Karelia. Our common task is to make holidays in Russia convenient, comfortable and affordable for our compatriots and foreign guests, - said Sergey Sukhanov.
The Head of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov noted that tourism is an important component of the regional economy development. Every year, new facilities and new jobs are created in this area. The volumes of the tax revenues from tourism and related areas, trade and services, are growing.
- Every year in our traditionally hospitable region there is an increase in the tourist flow. Last year, 1 million 490 thousand people visited Karelia, which is 55% more than in 2021. This trend is predicted to continue, - said Artur Parfenchikov. - The new agreement will allow the region to actively develop tourism in the Arctic, in the territories little known by tourists. This should give an impetus, first of all, to their development.
