The Head of Karelia inspected construction of the plant for production of products with the White Sea algae addition

Production is planned to be started this year.

The company “Biomedetsinskiye Innovatsionnye Tekhnologii” continues to implement a major investment project on building a plant in Berezovka. The new production site is planned to produce sports and baby food, dietary supplements, cosmetics with addition of the White Sea algae. The progress of construction was inspected during a working visit to the Kondopozhsky District by the Head of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov.

- We are on the verge of creating another industry, processing of wild algae. Today, Karelia produces slightly more than a thousand tons per year. It’s mainly fucus which is unique in its chemical composition. But we can produce much more. The new plant will process 500 tons of algae per year. Related enterprises will also appear, for example, for packaging production. It will be a significant component of the economy of Karelia, - noted the Head of the Republic.

The construction of the frames of the future workshops is currently being completed at the construction site. The warehouse building is almost ready and will soon be connected to the heating network. The production equipment has been purchased.

- We are ahead of schedule. We expect to commission the plant at the end of the second quarter, - said the company owner Anatoly Khitrov. - We plan to open about 100 jobs here. We have agreed with PetrSU to create a specialized department for training technologists at the university. We will be happy to train young people who want to develop themselves in biotechnology. In two years, we will have trained the first specialists, some of them will be employed at the plant. Of course, we will actively invite the local population to work.

The investor noted that the opening of such production in Karelia was facilitated by the interest of the republic leadership in attracting large businesses. The plant building is being constructed under a concession agreement. It means that the ownership of the real estate will belong to the republic. The investor receives the right to lease for a long term in exchange for obligations to co-finance the project, implement innovations and launch production.

With the assistance of the Government of Karelia, a land plot was selected, the design work was carried out, and agreements were reached on connecting the facility to the utility networks. This year, the enterprise plans to receive the status of a resident of the territory of advanced social and economic development in the Kondopozhsky District.

- In Karelia, we saw a unique case for our entire country. We will work with full dedication. We will create here a federal-scale competence center for processing seaweed products, which we have been professionally engaged in for 20 years, - the head of the company concluded.

Let us add that the company “Biomedetsinskiye Innovatsionnye Tekhnologii” is engaged in the White Sea algae harvesting in the north of Karelia. The enterprise has its own production in the Tver region. In order to reduce logistics costs and expand the range of products, after the launch of the new plant, part of the production is planned to be moved to Karelia.
