100th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia. A new air terminal complex was opened in Petrozavodsk
The terminal complies with all Russian and international standards and is capable to receive and dispatch up to 300 passengers per hour.
The modern air terminal complex of airport “Petrozavodsk” is one of the largest facilities built for the anniversary of the republic within the framework of the federal target program for development of Karelia. It was built with the assistance of the State Commission for the preparation for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the republic headed by the Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Nikolai Patrushev. All stages of work were personally supervised by the Deputy Secretary of the Security Council Rashid Nurgaliev.
The total cost of the facility is over one billion rubles. The new terminal has seven check-in counters, three pre-flight checkpoints, as well as an hospitality hall, a baby care room, and a catering facility. All this ensures a high level of service for visitors of the airport that meets Russian and international standards, provides conditions for a comfortable and safe stay in the territory of the airport complex.
At the airport, special attention is paid to ensuring flight safety. A year ago, military builders performed repairs of the runway, having replaced about 200 concrete slabs and widened their end parts. It allows to take the heaviest types of aircrafts with a possibility for their smooth turning. Within the airport, modern radio beacon complexes for short-range navigation and landing systems were installed, which can work around the clock and in any weather conditions.
In December 2019, the Transport Safety Department of the Federal Air Transport Agency issued a two-year Aviation Safety Certificate for Petrozavodsk Airport, which confirms full readiness of the equipment, services and specialists of the enterprise for trouble-free operation in any conditions.
“This is one of the most significant infrastructure projects implemented for the anniversary of the republic. In fact, for the first time in its history, Karelia received a modern airport. Along with the construction of the air terminal, complete technical refitting of the navigation equipment was carried out in two years. The runway was reconstructed and expanded and a number of additional works were carried out within the complex,” - noted the Head of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov.
According to the head of the region, the opening of a new airport terminal and development of the air traffic will boost the economy of the republic and tourism and business development.
“Today we can definitely say that Karelia has become closer for the residents of other Russian regions and for foreign guests. The most important thing is that the residents of the republic themselves have the opportunity to travel quickly and conveniently,” said Artur Parfenchikov.
The Prime Minister of the Government of Karelia Alexander Chepik added that the airport is one of the components of the large program for the region development.
“You see how many roads, bridges, social and cultural facilities are being built in the republic. It is being done on behalf of the President of Russia, and, according to his decree, the State Commission headed by the Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Nikolai Patrushev was created to prepare for the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the republic,” said Alexander Chepik. “Thanks to this work, the appearance of Karelia is changing, it is becoming modern and exciting.”
Three passengers who were the first to register for today's flight to Simferopol received some prizes. They were the certificates for free use of the VIP-hall of the airport complex. Today, the staff of the new terminal served another flight, having accepted the plane that arrived from Sochi.
