Large sports facilities will soon begin work in Karelia

The republic continues to improve its sports infrastructure. New objects in Petrozavodsk and the districts of Karelia are being built according to the federal project “Sport is the Norm of Life” of the national project «Demography», initiated by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

Next year, in Petrozavodsk, the construction of an administrative and household complex in Kurgan will be completed. Instead of old "cabins", there will be comfortable changing rooms, bathrooms, and showers. A sports hall will also be equipped.

By the end of 2024, the construction of the second line of the “Lumi” sports complex in the capital of Karelia will be completed. It will include a skating track with open tribunes, indoor mini-football and street basketball courts.

Sports infrastructure is being improved in Petrozavodsk as well as in the regions of Karelia. In Kostomuksha, an administrative and household building for a sports and recreation complex will be opened in 2024. It is designed for year-round preparation of athletes for competitions and for amateurs. The building consists of two blocks linked at the second floor by a warm passage. Block No. 1 will have a ski rental center, a gym with changing rooms, and a first aid room. Administrative offices and a classroom are planned on the second floor. Block No. 2 is intended for accommodation of athletes, the coaching staff of the sports school and preparation of equipment for competitions. There are also plans to increase the length of the roller ski track lighting.

The sports infrastructure development at the municipal level continues. An outdoor sports and recreational complex is being built near Lyceum No. 40 of Petrozavodsk. It is a multifunctional sports ground where you can practice football, basketball and athletics, and in winter you can skate and play hockey. There will also be four running tracks, a basketball sector, exercise equipment and a grandstand. The complex will be open to the citizens after school hours.

In addition, “health paths” have been equipped in various settlements of Karelia. In Petrozavodsk, the footpaths have been created in Patriot and Radiozavod parks. In Sortavala in Vakkosalmi Park, the length of the “trail” is 1.8 km, in Padany in the Medvezhyegorsky district, it is 950 meters. In Kem, a 600-meter-long “trail” is located in the city park. In the Belomorsky district, lighting appeared along two kilometers of the “health path” in the Chernukha tract. In the Prionezhsky district, the “health route” in the village of Derevyannoye is equipped with benches and gazebos, its length is 1.1 km. In the Kostomuksha district, on the shore of Lake Kontokki, a new walking path “Svetlyi Bereg” has appeared.

“It’s great that now I can practice Nordic walking and enjoy nature at the same time. It’s very comfortable here, and there is lighting in the evening, so it’s not scary to play sports in the evenings. And if I’m tired, I can sit on a bench,” Elena, the resident of the village of Derevyannoye, shared her impressions.

In 2019-2022, within the framework of the federal project “Sport is the Norm of Life”, 14 small TRP sports grounds were created in the regions of the republic: in Kalevala, Olonets, Pyaozerskoye, Suoyarvi, Medvezhyegorsk, Kostomuksha, Sortavala, the village of Derevyannoye, the settlement of Zolotets and the village of Sheltozero, the settlement of Rabocheostrovsky and the village of Rugozero. This year, TRP sites will appear in the settlement of Idel, the Segezhsky district, and the settlement of Ladva, the Prionezhsky district.
