Curling stones will be produced in Karelia

They will be made from the granite mined in the Pyatkyaranta region and processed in the technopark “Yuzhnaya Promzona”. The head of the region, Artur Parfenchikov, announced it on his VKontakte page.

During the forum “Russia – the Country of Sports”, the Karelian stone processors presented a unique republican product, a curling stone. As Arthur Parfenchikov said on his official page on the social network VKontakte, after the departure of foreign companies that had provided this sports equipment to Russia, Karelia would supply curlers with the necessary equipment.

– Previously, such stones were produced only in Canada and from Scottish granite. Now Russian athletes will have their own ones. They will be made from the granite mined in the Pitkyaranta region and processed in the technopark “Yuzhnaya Promzona”. Let me remind you that we have a unique, first Russian technopark for stone processing, which was created thanks to the national project “Small and Medium Enterprises and Support for Individual Entrepreneurial Initiatives, – the Head of the region emphasized.

The curling stones presented at the exhibition will be tested at curling sports facilities, and based on the results, their launching is planned.

As the Chairman of the Association of Karelian Stone Processors, one of the owners of the technopark, Dmitriy Fabrikantov noted, there is enough material available in the region for sports equipment manufacturing to provide all Russian teams with curling stones.

The Russian Curling Federation supported the proposed project.
