Artur Parfenchikov: by 2030, the share of tourism in the gross regional product should reach 9-10%
The hospitality industry has a positive impact on the development of other industries: transport accessibility is expanded, new jobs are created for the residents of Karelia, and tax revenues help accelerate development of the republic’s regions. In his opening speech during the Government meeting, the Head of the Region Artur Parfenchikov emphasized that Karelia has a unique tourism potential, it maintains a high position in the rating of the most popular routes for travelling in Russia. The features of its nature make the republic attractive for visiting all year round. – On behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the entire country must achieve a 5% share of tourism in the gross regional product by 2030. We set ourselves the task of 9-10% by this period. We need to solve this task today, – said the head of the region. Artur Parfenchikov separately noted that the tourism sector development has a positive effect on the related industries. New accommodations are being built in Karelia, transport accessibility is being expanded, and new jobs are being created for the residents of the region. For many areas of the republic, tourism is becoming one of the main sources of income, and the budget revenues allow for more effective development of their infrastructure. The Minister of Economic Development of Karelia Oleg Ermolaev said that there are 929 accommodation facilities in the region and their number continues to grow. One of the striking examples of those put into operation in 2024 was the hotel complex “Zaonezhye”. It was opened in the village of Kazhma, Shungskoye rural settlement. The head of the regional Ministry of Economic Development also emphasized that the republic is ready to hold the winter tourist season. In 2024-2025, more than 400 thousand trips are expected during this period. The national project “Tourism and Hospitality Industry” helps the region develop the hospitality sphere. In 2024, almost 220 million rubles were allocated for state support from the federal budget under the national project of Karelia for construction of new modular houses, campsites and campgrounds. The historical center of Petrozavodsk will also be developed. By the end of 2024, the capital of Karelia will complete improvement of the territory of the Istochnik and the Issersonovsky public gardens and the Yakorny park.
