Vladimir Chizhov was appointed as the senator from Karelia

The corresponding decree was signed by the Head of the Republic Artur Parfenchikov.

On September 27, the Head of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov signed a decree granting Vladimir Alekseevich Chizhov the powers of the senator of the Russian Federation, the representative of the executive body of the state power of the Republic of Karelia.

Previously, Vladimir Chizhov served as the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community. On September 26, President Vladimir Putin released him from his responsibilities as the Permanent Representative to the EU and the Euratom.

Vladimir Alekseevich Chizhov was born on December 3, 1953. In 1976 he graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations. He has been following diplomacy as a career since 1976, served in different capacities in the central office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and abroad (Greece, Cyprus, Austria). In 1996, he was appointed the Deputy High Representative for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2000-2002, he was the Special Representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Balkans. From 2002, he served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. From 2010, he was the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community in Brussels.

V.A. Chizhov has the diplomatic rank of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (2000). He was awarded with the Orders of Friendship (2003), Honor (2013), and Alexander Nevsky (2019).
