The volume of export of the goods from Karelia is estimated at $ 1.2 billion at the end of the year

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Karelia for Economic Affairs Dmitry Rodionov spoke about the export potential of the republic at a conference in Petrozavodsk.

Today in Karelia, the conference "Export: Trends and Prospects" was held with the participation of the representatives of the regional executive authorities, the Karelian customs, and the representative office of the AO "Russian Export Center".

The Republic of Karelia is an export-oriented subject of the Russian Federation, therefore the development of activities to increase the export of goods is a priority issue.

The foreign trade turnover of the republic for 9 months of 2021 increased by 52% compared to the same period in 2020 and amounted to more than 1 billion US dollars. The share of exports in the republic foreign trade turnover is 74%, in imports it is 26%.

The products of the Karelian producers are supplied to more than 100 countries of the world. The main trade partners of the Republic of Karelia are Finland, Estonia, China, the Netherlands, Germany, and Egypt.

Dmitry Rodionov, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Karelia for Economic Affairs: “The volume of export of goods from the republic from January to September 2021 amounted to 735.4 million US dollars. We have an increase of 47% compared to the same period in 2020. This is due to an increase in export supplies of wood and pulp and paper products by 30%, machinery, equipment and vehicles by 71%, mineral products (ore) by 33.5 times.”

The share of non-resource non-energy exports is 84.5% or 610 million USD. The increase compared to 2020 amounted to 140 million USD.

Dmitry Rodionov noted that, in addition to traditional areas that occupy a key position, software products as objects of intellectual property have enormous potential: “Software development in the field of information technology and automated systems for managing enterprises and technological processes, for example, is carried out in the IT park of PetrSU. The software products of the IT-park are exported to 18 countries of the world, including Finland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Australia, Brazil, Canada and the USA.”

Another factor of successful development of the regional export activities is the developed customs and border and border road infrastructure. In the territory of the republic, there are 3 multilateral automobile checkpoints Vyartsilya, Lyuttya and Suoperya, which are used by our exporters to supply products abroad.

In order to expand opportunities for export activities and achieve the tasks set by the federal center, the regional government will continue to actively involve the republic companies in the development of exports using existing and emerging support means.

At the conference, the Minister of Economic Development and Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan Oleg Ermolaev spoke about measures of the state support for business and noted that the main goal of the state support programs is to support business at all stages of its development: from a starting idea to expansion and export.

Taking into account the current conditions and the world market situation, the Government of the region predicts a further increase in exports, the volume of which is estimated at 1.2 billion USD by the end of the year, an increase of more than 1.5 times.
