In Karelia, two sections of the federal highway A-215 were opened in the Prionezhskiy region after repairs

The road is important for the republic as well as for neighboring regions - the Vologda and Leningrad regions and St. Petersburg. The start for the automobile traffic in teleconference mode was given by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Government Marat Khusnullin.

In Karelia, two repaired sections of the A-215 highway Lodeynoye Pole – Vytegra – Prokshino – Plesetsk – Brin-Navolok and the access to Petrozavodsk were opened. The start for the car traffic in the teleconference mode was given by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Government Marat Khusnullin. The Head of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov took part in the road opening ceremony. At the same time, the sections of highways were launched in the Rostov and Vologda regions.

“We continue the series of roads grand openings. On the occasion of the Road Worker's Day, with the participation of the President, a number of road facilities that are significant for the regional social and economic development have already been opened. Now, the work on several more ones has been completed in the Republic of Karelia, the Vologda and Rostov regions. On behalf of the President, restoration and expansion of roads included in the basic network continues. On the A-215 Lodeynoye Pole - Vytegra - Prokshino - Plesetsk - Brin-Navolok highway and the access to Petrozavodsk in the Republic of Karelia, road workers carried out a major overhaul of two sections with a total length of more than 30 km. I thank the entire regional team for the work done. I’m sincerely glad that you manage everything in terms of construction, and not only roads,” said the Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.

The A-215 highway was transferred to the federal ownership four years ago as proposed by the Head of Karelia. This allowed to start putting it in order. In some sections of the route, the road surface was in extremely poor condition. Last year, the “VAD” company completely repaired the section from the 100th to the 113th km, and this year, two sections of the road were done, from the 86th to the 100th and from the 113th to the 132nd km. The total length is more than 30 kilometers. The road surface was updated on the highway as well as the lines of street lighting, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings and bus stops in the settlements were organised.

- Many thanks to the President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and the Russian Government for supporting implementation of this project. The highway A-215 is an important road for the development of the Petrozavodsk agglomeration, the southern regions of Karelia, for the residents of the Leningrad and Vologda regions, - said the Head of the Republic Artur Parfenchikov. - The road became federal in 2019, and since then, it has been actively designed and overhauled. It is difficult to overestimate the significance of the route. There are many quarries of building stone along the road, including a quarry of crimson quartzite which Red Square is paved with. The road also gives impetus to individual housing construction.

The head of the region noted that the road industry in Karelia is developing actively in general. Over the past two years, almost 600 km of the regional roads have been introduced in the republic. This year alone, 109 road projects are being commissioned, including 23 bridges.

Gradually, the A-215 road will be brought back to standard along its entire length. Next year it is planned to begin major repairs from the 74th to 86th km of the route. The project documentation has been developed for converting the busiest section of the road into four lanes from the village of Derevyannoye to the border of Petrozavodsk. The long-term plans include major repairs of two more sections: from the 43rd to the 58th km and from the 58th to the 74th km.
