2021 is declared the Year of the Karelian runes in the republic
On December 23, the Head of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov signed a decree declaring 2021 the Year of the Karelian runes in the republic, as well as approved the Action Plan dedicated to the Karelian runes.
The Karelian runes, which contain information on the religious and mythological ideas, way of life, rituals of the Karelians, are one of the most important elements of the republic spiritual culture and have become a source of inspiration for many famous writers, artists, composers, and theatre workers.
The plan of the Year of the Karelian runes includes 42 events aimed at preserving, developing and popularizing the Karelian rune-singing tradition, awakening interest in getting acquainted and studying the Karelian runes, as well as creating new modern products on their basis. There are workshops, exhibitions, theme nights, quizzes, festive events that will be of great interest to people of different ages.
The central event of the Year of the Karelian Runes will be the festive event, the “Day of the Karelian Runes”, which will take place on June 10, 2021.
